MakerBot Announces PrintShop 1.3 with Medal Maker

Everybody deserves a medal for something. From the elementary school soccer champion to world’s best golfer, we can all think of a reason for a very important award, and with MakerBot PrintShop’s latest release of 1.3, 3D printing enthusiasts can make medals to their hearts’ content, organizing events galore and presenting winners with their custom medals.

With multiple improvements included, the most exciting feature of MakerBot PrintShop 1.3 is the Medal Maker, announced by MakerBot as its “most prolific tool yet,” allowing users to make use of:

  • 7 different styles of medals.
  • 27 icons for customizing for specific sport or events.
  • Customized text fields.

In a user-friendly format, once you decide on the options you’d like to use for your medal or medals, producing it is as simple as pressing the print button and sending the file to your MakerBot 3D printer. Also available is the very convenient option to send it wirelessly. If you want to save your file, you have the option of putting it in the cloud, saving it to your MakerBot cloud library.

With all the options available, you have the opportunity to add a real morale booster to kids’ sporting events, games at birthday parties, goals reached for different types of social clubs and events — and it’s a morale booster to be the one providing the 3D printed medals and watching the smiles on people’s faces when they realize they won, and have a memento to both prove it and remember it by. Being able to personalize the medals is a real plus for a team or any group event — or maybe just for a special gift regarding one or several individuals.

MakerBot makes their software enticing with the invitation to use something new that involves “no learning curve.” While we all want to try creating some fun new things digitally, often with today’s I’m-too-busy culture, there just isn’t time to take out for learning a new skill in our free time. PrintShop is a fun product to use for making many innovate objects with your MakerBot Replicator. PrintShop 1.3 offers a user-friendly tablet application which should appeal to a wide number of current and potential users, and is also available with a wifi option.

The MakerBot team has been dedicated to making updates not only to PrintShop, but also MakerBot Mobile and MakerBot Desktop. Users can look forward to trying out new features included in the entire suite of products, but with PrintShop can not only look forward to making medals, but also an improved user interface as well as a host of ‘backend’ improvements.

Do you own a MakerBot printer and do you use any of these products, or have you tried them? Tell us about it in the MakerBot PrintShop 1.3 forum over at 3DPB.com.
