Are you interested in 3D design and hobnobbing with the best in the biz? Looking to share your 3D printing enthusiasm, talent, and designs, and to get some tips?
MakerBot, manufacturer of 3D desktop printers and creator of Thingiverse, is one of the most dynamic, exciting companies in the 3D printing industry today. Now, they are inviting you to their home city of Brooklyn, NY, for an exciting two days of inspiration, group motivation, and learning on November 15 and 16, for the second annual MakerBot Thingiverse Make-a-Thon.
MakerBot has set the standard for 3D desktop printing, and with Thingiverse, they are truly tapped into what’s going on in the world of 3D design and 3D printing. MakerBot and Thingiverse are composed of innovators and makers doing awesome things — and they want you to be awesome, too. Here’s a great chance to expand your knowledge.

For the second annual Make-a-Thon, MakerBot is putting the emphasis on design. While MakerBot manufactures extremely popular 3D desktop printers, design is obviously a huge element in the process of 3D printing, and Thingiverse is centered around a community of designing, sharing, and discovering. Here is a chance to learn and share with the MakerBot team, and the Thingiverse community — in person.
A design challenge is in the works for attendees, and you can also take the chance to work in the famous BotFarm, which is ‘a very special cluster of machines each tuned to fabricate a tremendous array of objects,’ from the MakerBot workshop.
Presentations and workshops will be offered, with a variety of sessions for users on all levels, such as:
- Getting started with 3D Printing
- From Concept to Digital Store Model with Solidworks & ZBrush
- OpenSCAD Crash Course for Customizable Designs
- Parametric Modeling with Rhino featuring SimplusDesign
- Rapid prototyping of 3D design apps with Three.js
- Advanced 3D Printing techniques with custom profiles
The folks at MakerBot and Thingiverse stress that there are limited spaces for this free event, and obviously they will go fast, as many will be clamoring to get in on this Make-a-Thon and rub shoulders with the experts, as well as hang out with their 3D printing and designing peers. Best of all — score some swag while you are there. Click here for more information on registration. Tickets are free, and once all have been booked a waitlist will be an option.
Are you thinking about attending this event, or did you go last year? Tell us about it in the 2014 MakerBot Thingiverse Make-a-Thon forum at 3DPB.com.
