The market for desktop 3D printers seems to be picking up, with 2014 being a breakthrough year when it comes to pricing. Despite what seemed like an explosion of new machines, the market still is very small considering its long-term potential. According to Gartner under 110,000 3D printers were sold in 2014 and about 217,000 are expected to be sold in 2015.
Based on these numbers you would think it would be safe to assume that the market for machines capable of 3D printing as well as engraving and cutting would be meager at best. It seems like we may have thought wrong, though, as the FLUX All-in-One 3D printer shattered their own Kickstarter goal earlier this month, bringing in a staggering $1.64 million in just 40 days.
On the heels of the FLUX Printer, trying to get caught up in its tailwinds perhaps, comes yet another all-in-one machine, the NemoMaker N1 by Nexkos Inc. China-based Nexkos is not new to the technology space by any means, recently launching a smart thermometer on Kickstarter — but 3D printing is an area new to them.
The NemoMaker N1, which launched on Kickstarter this week, seeks to provide the full capabilities of 3D printing as well as laser engraving and cutting within one integrated package, at a price which is on par with some of the more affordable 3D printers on the market today. Below you will find the general specifications of the machine, for which Nexkos hopes to take in $20,000 AUD in funding in order to enter full production.

The metal frame of the machine provides a sturdy backbone for a steady printing and engraving/cutting process. The NemoMaker N1 is ideal for engraving materials such as wood, cork, or plastics, and can cut thinner materials like paper. The machine starts at $599 AUD (approximately $490 USD) as a Kickstarter reward, equipped with a single extruder, while the double extruder version can be pre-ordered via Kickstarter for just $699 AUD (approximately $572 USD). If everything goes as planned, and the Kickstarter is successfully funded, the very first machines will be prepared for shipping sometime in April 2015.
